Lingering Existences
Experimental photography that explores the concept of memories, time, and lingering feelings by combining analog and digital photo production and editing processes.

The concept is based on the process of how things and moments happen and how they eventually fade away, leaving a blurry sense in the end.
The process starts from abrupt disruptions to evolving illusions to lingering existences. The two mediums show the process of creating memories, retaining memories, to morphing and erasing memories. The analog process represents the creation of memories, while the digital process represents the fading of memories.

In the project, I started with creating lumen prints by casting “waste” and found objects onto darkroom papers, such as used tissue papers or expired keys that are left behind. These prints are created by distorting photographic paper with sunlight, and they would eventually fade away as the audience opened the zine and exposed it to sunlight. Sunlight is also a symbol of time, both for the prints and for the memories behind them (or for photos and the moment of capturing them). Incidents happen with it as well as fade with it.

The live video uses the original print scans and morphs them into "fading memories." It is similar to how photos are taken, but memories fade over time. After a long time, memories become distorted live videos that constantly change. Even when the originals are underneath, we cannot recall the details of them. Although the details of original memories fade and change, the blurry feelings still linger.
